Construction Has Begun on Cartwright Ridge Trailhead Enhancement Project
August 31, 2026 12:00 PM
The Cartwright Ridge Trailhead parking lot (9387 N Cartwright Road) closed Monday, August 31, and will remain closed through spring 2027 while crews complete a much-needed enhancement project. During the closure, trail users should park at the nearby Polecat Gulch-Collister Trailhead, located at the end of Collister Drive, to access the Polecat Loop trail system.
Located off Cartwright Road, the existing dirt trailhead provides access to Polecat Gulch Reserve and Peggy’s Trail. Planned improvements include a dedicated paved parking area, designated horse trailer parking and a vault restroom. The improvement project will transform the dirt lot with 12 unpaved parking spots to 28 paved parking stalls, with two accessible spaces.
The $500,000 project is funded by a $200,000 grant from the Foundation for America’s Public Lands and a $300,000 investment from the City of Boise’s 2015 Open Space and Clean Water Levy. The land is owned by the Bureau of Land Management, and the construction contract has been awarded to Owyhee Civil, LLC.
Trail users are asked to avoid the construction area and follow all posted closure signs. Additional information about reopening will be shared as work progresses. Thank you for your patience and understanding as these improvements are completed!
