May 8 Weekend Trail Report
May 8, 2026 8:00 AM
A quick report here to for folks to use in the event that you are planning your weekend trail outings already. Temperatures do appear to be heating up as the weekend progresses with the potential for 90 degrees by Sunday afternoon! Ultimately, this means that the wet and muddy trail conversation has likely been tabled for the foreseeable future. But trail conditions appear to be in great shape right now before things dry out to the point of having that sand and loose dirt overlaying many of the trails like they are through the summer. With warm temperatures, green vegetation, water in the creeks, and trails in good condition, it should be a great weekend to be out recreating in the Foothills!
As heads up to folks beginning to migrate to higher elevation trails in the Foothills, the Hawkins Range Reserve trails are now OPEN for the season! Trails in this Reserve remained closed for an extra week due to wet conditions after the most recent rainstorms, but the warmer temps and dry conditions have helped to dry these trails out. The jersey barrier that was blocking access to the trailhead should now be removed and the gate immediately off Bogus Basin Road should also be operable during daylight hours. If problems with either of these two things occur during the first few days of the trailhead being open, please reach out to let us know.
Also, as a reminder from our post earlier this week, Owl’s Roost trail will remain OPEN for use throughout this weekend. Work will continue Monday, May 11th, and should conclude by Tuesday, May 12th, of next week. The trail will be closed on these days when work is being performed.
Happy Mother’s Day Weekend to all the moms out there and have a great next few days out on the trails!
