March 4 Trail Report
March 4, 2026 12:00 PM
If you have a chance to get out into the Foothills this morning, take the opportunity to do so. The forecast indicates that we are in for a significant amount of precipitation between today and tonight; upwards of half an inch of rainfall in the Lower Foothills seems possible from this system. While we certainly welcome all the precipitation we can get after a relatively dry winter, it is very likely that this amount of rainfall will set trail conditions back again a few days. Hence, the urgency to get out early today to take advantage of trails that are currently in pretty good shape overall.
The Ridge to Rivers Interactive Map has been updated to indicate that all the Lower Foothill trails are currently GREEN (dry/tacky) or YELLOW (mostly dry with the potential for some muddy spots). Yesterday was a beautiful preview of the fast-approaching spring weather with plenty of sunshine and very pleasant temperatures. This weather certainly helped along with the drying process for trails that receive plenty of sunshine throughout the day. Trails that are shaded for most of or throughout the day still have the potential to be a bit sticky right now but appear to have mostly moved into that tacky phase. Lots of people were out enjoying the nice weather and trail conditions by yesterday afternoon.
Check back in with condition updates tomorrow after the impending rainstorm to see if trail conditions have changed significantly. In the meantime, enjoy the trails and the Foothills this morning!
