March 3 Trail Report
March 3, 2026 12:00 PM
After a very dry January and February, it appears that the beginning of March may be ushering in some more consistent rounds of precipitation and more typical winter weather for us. Today appears to be the one very nice day sandwiched in between rainstorms that are bringing measurable amounts of rainfall to the Lower Foothills. Take advantage of this opportunity to get outside on trails for what is already shaping up to be a preview of spring-like conditions; bluebird skies and potentially a 60 degree day!
Yesterday, trails around the system were in better shape than expected after the rain that fell to begin the week. While trails in the heaviest clay soil areas within the system (think trails west of Bogus Basin Road) were still quite sticky by the afternoon, other trails with a more durable mix of sand and clay remained more or less usable. These trails continue to be marked in YELLOW on the Ridge to Rivers Interactive Map. Ultimately, this means that these trails may be quite dry throughout most of the trail segments, but if you do come across long stretches of muddy trail which is causing you to travel off trail or resulting in mud sticking to your shoes or tires, than it is time to turn around and find a new place to recreate.
As of this moment, the forecast for tomorrow indicates well over a quarter of an inch of possible so please anticipate that trail conditions afterwards may look quite different. Please adjust your outdoor recreation plans for the week accordingly.
