March 1 Trail Report

Happy Sunday and happy March!

While we’ve seen a slow and steady improvement in trail conditions over the last few days, today presents a narrow window for those looking to get their foothills fix. The system has been drying out beautifully, but with rain expected to move in around 2:00 PM this afternoon, that progress is temporarily at risk. Morning is undoubtedly the best time to head out. Many lower-elevation, sandier trails are currently in great shape, but the incoming moisture will quickly reactivate the clay soils that have just begun to stabilize. Once the rain hits, it could rapidly shift trail statuses from "good to go" back to "sloppy" and sensitive.

To protect the integrity of our trails and prevent long-term damage, we highly recommend finishing your adventures well before the afternoon showers arrive. If you find yourself on a trail that starts to stick to your heels or tires, please be a responsible steward and turn back immediately. As always, check the Ridge to Rivers Interactive Map for the most up-to-date, color-coded conditions on your favorite routes. If you are itching for a romp in the rain later today we recommend checking out sandier trails this morning, or all-weather alternatives and even the Boise River Greenbelt.
