January 26 Trail Report
January 26, 2026 12:00 PM
After a much-needed weekend of abundant sunshine and cold temperatures, not much has changed in terms of trail conditions around the Ridge to Rivers Trail System. Very cold temps overnight continue to mean that moisture will remain frozen near the ground surface. This means that this moisture will be present once the sun gets higher in the sky and temps rise above the freezing mark causing some parts of the system to get soft, and potentially muddy, by late morning or early afternoon. Please continue to be mindful of this and plan your outdoor recreation accordingly. Trails around the Military Reserve and those west of Bogus Basin Road are the locations where you are most likely to find lingering sections of muddy trail at this point.
The Ridge to Rivers Interactive Trail Map continues to be updated daily to reflect the changes in trail conditions as we observe them (https://www.ridgetorivers.org/trails/interactive-map/). Most trails are still labeled as FROZEN EARLY THEN MUDDY, meaning that these trails are still going through that freeze/thaw process. As we continue to see these trails remain relatively dry throughout the day, we will make changes to the map to reflect this. As always, user trail reports are always welcome to help us get a more complete picture of what is going on out in the trail system.
For a list of muddy trail alternative trails and a list of winter weather trail etiquette, please reference the Wet Weather and Winter Trail Use webpage (https://www.ridgetorivers.org/trail-guide/trail-etiquette/wet-weather-and-winter-trail-use/).
In the meantime, have a great day out on the trails and enjoy what is hopefully another day of blue skies today!
