January 21 Trail Report

Stack Rock Trail 2

We are again frigid this morning with temperatures in the mid-twenties. The fog cover is allowing trails to remain frozen longer, so you should have good trail choices at least until mid-day if not early afternoon. Eventually however most trails will soften and become muddy, so if you are heading out past then you should stick to sandy or all-weather trails – or be prepared and willing to turn around when you hit the inevitable long muddy sections.  If you are looking for a shot of sunshine, Freddy's Stack Rock Trail is passable and just above the fog layer - but bring your traction shoes as there are long stretches of slippery packed snow.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  Idaho Fish and Game will be restricting trail access to the Boise River Wildlife Management Area to protect wintering wildlife from February 1st through April 14th.  See this link for more information:  https://idfg.idaho.gov/article/fish-and-game-will-restrict-access-boise-river-wma-second-winter

Lastly….a car was broken into yesterday at the Cartwright Trailhead.  Please be vigilant, remember to lock your car and leave your valuables at home.

Thanks for checking today’s report.
