January 20 Trail Report

Jan 20 Lower Hulls

It is hard to continue figuring out how to repeat the same message in a new way for everyone, so we’ll just say it this way today; if you have been awake and traveled outside of your house in the city of Boise over the past week, today’s forecast is predicted to be just like what you observed earlier. It is kind of crazy how stable and consistent the weather has been this past week, but probably not in the way that most people would prefer! A bit of sunshine down in the valley would certainly be nice!

Since the weather has been so repeatable, typified by temperatures that only seem to only be rising slightly above freezing for short periods of the day, trail conditions around the Ridge to Rivers trail system also continue to be relatively unchanged. Trails should be locked up frozen solid by late evening and remain so well into the morning right now. When temps do rise above freezing during the middle of the day, it is very possible, if not likely, that there will be plenty of muddy trails throughout the system. In that way, if you are headed out during the warmer part of the day, look to sandy and all-weather trails first to meet your recreation needs. Please continue to make the choice to turn around if you are encountering long stretches of muddy trail; it is not going to improve the further out you go.

And finally, if you have friends or know people that aren’t familiar with the trail conditions right now and are thinking about getting outside at some point this week, please refer them to any of these resources so that they can stay informed. Here are links to the Ridge to Rivers Interactive Trail Map (https://www.ridgetorivers.org/trails/interactive-map/) and the Wet Weather and Winter Trail Use webpage (https://www.ridgetorivers.org/trail-guide/trail-etiquette/wet-weather-and-winter-trail-use/).

Thank you in advance to everyone!
