January 17 Condition Report
January 17, 2026 8:00 AM
It hasn’t rained or snowed in well over a week, right? Trails should be dry and great to travel on, right? Wrong. The daily freeze-thaw temperature cycle continues to push sub-surface moisture to the trail surface where it softens and turns to mud as soon as temperatures climb near 30 degrees.
Get out early this morning to have your pick of frozen, albeit rutted trails. By mid-morning you will need to be more selective and focus your travel on sandy trails or all-weather routes to avoid doing damage. As always, please TURN AROUND if you find yourself in muddy conditions.
