January 16 Trail Report
January 16, 2026 8:00 AM
As we have been saying, trail conditions remain fairly static in the Foothills - unfortunately. The majority of trails in the lower and mid-Foothills will again soften up and become muddy by late morning - even with the inversion induced cloud cover. Trails above the clouds (think Sweet Connie) soften up even faster.
We are seeing no shortage of trails with deep foot, paw and bike prints, and as noted by trail users in yesterday's comments these make for teeth chattering and ankle twisting conditions for those individuals trying to do the right thing by using the trails when they are frozen.
Take home messages:
- Get an EARLY START.
- If you can't get an early start:
- Do not try to do your usual loops - you will invariably find yourself in muddy conditions.
- Be creative.
- Choose sandy trails.
- TURN AROUND if you find yourself in muddy conditions.
