February 26 Trail Report

226 Mountain Cove All Weather

A day can make a big difference when it comes to both weather and trail conditions. Sunny skies and relatively warm temperatures yesterday afternoon, with more of the same forecast for today, will likely give a big boost to drying trails after the significant amounts of precipitation we received during this latest round of showers. To be clear, as of this morning the only trails that we are recommending right now are all-weather trails and the main dirt roads located within the Ridge to Rivers trail system boundaries. All-weather trails around the Military Reserve were in good shape yesterday afternoon after becoming soggy during the rain showers. It is safe to assume that the other all-weather trail locations throughout the system will similarly be good-to-go first thing this morning.

Beyond the all-weather trails, please give the rest of the trails in the system just a bit more time to dry before planning your hikes, runs, or rides, especially on trails that you know to contain a significant amount of dark, clay soil. Once you do venture out beyond all-weather surfaces, very sandy soil locations such as Upper and Lower Hulls Gulch and the Camel's back trails should be the next locations to try. If the sun comes out early this morning, these trails will almost certainly be in good shape by the time temperatures have warmed up. Beyond these few locations, with the help of temperatures that stay above the freezing mark overnight, we are hoping that conditions by midday tomorrow will have similarly improved still a bit more.

The Ridge to Rivers Interactive Map will continue to be updated daily to reflect the general trend of trail conditions around the system. Also, for a more complete list of trails that dry out the quickest, as well as trails that should be avoided during wet conditions, please continue to use the Wet Weather and Winter Trail Use webpage as a resource to plan your trail outings for the day. Thank you everyone for staying invested in maintaining our trail system!
