February 24 Trail Report
February 24, 2026 12:00 PM
The most important piece of information to know first thing this morning is that weather stations in the lower Foothills have already recorded a quarter of an inch of rainfall by 7 AM. Add to that a forecast which indicates that rain is supposed to continue well into this afternoon, and you can already get the picture of some pretty wet trails throughout the trail system. Yes, trails yesterday appeared to be in good shape, but this amount of precipitation is sure to set trail conditions back again, at least in the short term. Please allow this weather window to run its course and let trails begin to dry out again before migrating back to your favorite trails within the trail system.
Today is THE day to find a wet weather alternative for your outdoor recreation plans and please avoid the trails in the low to mid elevations of the Foothills right now. The Greenbelt should probably be the go-to location for your runs, walks, or rides today if hitting your local gym isn’t an option for you. If nothing else, it might be a great opportunity to explore a section of the Greenbelt that you haven’t been to at this point. Remember, there are 29 miles of paved pathway right along the Boise River within Boise city limits alone! Just like with the Ridge to Rivers Interactive Trail Map, a similar resource exists for the Greenbelt where you can get a visual on routes as well as current closures and detours (https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/2ae82c1d2b034f8e9e49aa1fb0944d3e).
In the meantime, you can continue to utilize the resources found at https://www.ridgetorivers.org/ to navigate the wet weather during this time of the year. Thanks to everyone and try to stay dry out there today!
