February 22 Conditions 2
Great news for those early birds the trails in the lower and mid-foothills will remain frozen and stable through the early morning hours! So if we haven't said it enough, get out EARLY!! Because, with temperatures forecast to reach a high of 50 degrees, expect a rapid thaw starting around mid morning so as soon as noon hits a lot of trails will become sloppy. As the frost leaves the ground and muddy conditions it will make the trails highly susceptible to damage and deep rutting.
Upper elevation trails remain snow-covered and offer excellent conditions for snowshoeing and other fun winter adventures. Please plan to finish your trek before midday to avoid muddy conditions. If you are heading out this afternoon, please stick to all-weather surfaces or the sandiest trails (like Harrison Hollow or Mountain Cove) to prevent long-term trail damage. Things were very soft yesterday, and we expect a similar pattern today as the afternoon sun hits the slopes.
