February 12 Trail Report

Kestrel Trail

The good news is that trails seem to be drying out. Due to milder overnight temps (above freezing) and day time highs around 50 degrees, many trails are more soft versus sticky. Examples of these trails include Kestrel, Military Reserve Connector, Crestline, Ridgecrest from the archery range and Central Ridge. 3 Bears and Shane's from the Bucktail/2 Point junction still have some muddy sections. Fortunately, these sections are short.

The not as good news is that there are still several trails that should be avoided. Examples of these trails include Cottonwood Trail, the Polecat Cartwright trails, Rock Garden and Island. As temperatures continue to increase, mid-elevation trails with south facing aspects (Sweet Connie, Stack Rock and Dry Creek being examples) will be muddy and also should be avoided until they have a few more days to completely dry out.

In short, there are some nice options out there today. However, there are still a lot of trails and locations that should still be avoided. Happy Trails!
