December 18 Trail Report

Sho Pai Puddle

The good news is that many trails dried out significantly yesterday afternoon. If you’re prepared for an early start this morning – you should have some nice options. Trails around Hulls Gulch (think Red Cliffs, Kestrel and Crestline) were in decent shape as of 3 p.m. yesterday afternoon. However, be prepared to travel through and not around puddles as you’re due to encounter them. The bad news is that, according to the weather person – conditions will change by mid-morning. Showers are supposed to begin in the next hour or two, followed by rain. Trail conditions will change quickly for the worse and those same trails that were dry yesterday afternoon will become muddy and usable. In short, there may be a small window to get out and enjoy some dry and tacky trails early but if you delay further into the morning and afternoon your best bets are going to be dirt roads (8th street and Rocky Canyon) and the always reliable Greenbelt. Trails on the Interactive Map have been updated to mostly yellow and red in preparation for the inclement weather we’re expecting later this morning and throughout the day.
