December 16 Trail Report
December 16, 2025 12:00 PM
If you are looking to get in a big run, ride, or hike on dirt trails this week, you would be wise to work that into your schedule today! The weather forecast indicates that, beginning sometime this afternoon, we are finally due for some significant precipitation. Further, it appears that there is a significant chance of precipitation every day for the remainder of the week and extending well into next week. While temperatures are forecast to remain unseasonably warm throughout this period, significant amounts of rain and/or snow will likely make trail conditions wet, and potentially muddy, until the next big change in weather comes around. When conditions do begin freezing consistently overnight, we are likely to begin seeing our first real round of muddy trail conditions throughout the trail system.
While trails do remain OPEN throughout the system, and are almost entirely listed in GOOD CONDITION on the Ridge to Rivers Interactive Map (https://www.ridgetorivers.org/trails/interactive-map/), please stay tuned as we update those conditions throughout the week. This is also a reminder that, if you do arrive at a trailhead or trail and find that conditions are worse than indicated on trail reports, the default is always to turn around and find a new location to recreate once mud begins sticking to your shoes/tires or if you find yourself going off trail to avoid muddy areas. For more trail etiquette information and suggestions for alternatives to recreating on muddy trail, please visit the Wet Weather and Winter Trail Use webpage at https://www.ridgetorivers.org/trail-guide/trail-etiquette/wet-weather-and-winter-trail-use/.
Have a great day out there!
