Ridge to Rivers Seeks Funding for Trail Maintenance
The grant has been endorsed by numerous groups, including the Treasure Valley Trail Machine Association, the Southwest Idaho Mountain Biking Association (SWIMBA), the Rocky Mountain Sailtoads running group and the Idaho Chapter of the National Interscholastic Cycling Association.
ORMV grants are administered by the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation. If the grant is awarded, funds for this work should be available by mid-summer 2019.
“Both of these trails are in need of significant tread repair and drainage structure re-establishment,” said Ridge to Rivers Program Manager David Gordon. He adds that due to the length and difficulty of maintaining these trails, Ridge to Rivers crews are often not able to get to them under optimal conditions, which usually happens in the fall.
“We really need moisture in the soil for our maintenance to be effective and by the time we are able to get to those trails, the soils are often too dry,” he said.
If the Ridge to Rivers partnership is awarded this grant, Gordon says work on the two trails would most likely begin when the rain arrives in the fall of 2019 and would most likely continue until spring 2020.
The Ridge to Rivers partnership was formed in 1992 and consists of the City of Boise, Ada County, the Bureau of Land Management Four Rivers Field Office, the Boise National Forest and the Idaho Department of Fish and Game. The partnership exists under a Memorandum of Understanding, with the City of Boise serving as the lead agency.
